What is CBG
I did not spell CBD incorrectly. If you are interested in the CBD or Cannabis Industry you will be well aware of the cannabinoid CBD or Cannabidiol. Due to the nature of the current poor laws and legislations, CBD and Cannabis have not been researched heavily. However, this is changing and as time goes on we don’t have to rely on anecdotal evidence as much. CBG has been whispered about for a good while now and some people are referring to it as being better than CBD. Some of the CBD products on the markets are spin-offs and are just niched down to make other forms of cash flow. My first thoughts are that CBG is the same thing here.
CBG stands for Cannabigerol and just like CBD and THC, it is one of 120 odd cannabinoids found in the Cannabis plant. THC is by far the most well-known cannabinoid as it has a psychoactive effect on the brain. CBD and CBG do not have this effect on the brain. People are looking towards CBG as it is the foundation molecule that other cannabinoids. for example, CBD and THC are created from CBG. Cannabigerol is converted into the other cannabinoids during its growth and at the end of the process, there is about 1% of the CBG left in the plant.
A Major or Minor Cannabinoid?
Due to the fact that after the conversions there is only 1% of CBG left in the plant, CBG is considered a minor cannabinoid by many. Others will argue that because it is the first Cannabinoid where other cannabinoids come from it is more than minor. Many have placed forward the argument that because the acidic form of CBG, which is CBGA (CBG with an extra carboxyl group “A” ) it should be considered much more. CBGA is at its highest concentrations when the cannabis plant is flowering. Enzymes start to work as the plant grows and the CBGA is then converted to CBDA etc.
If you find it hard to find viable research on CBD you will really struggle to find it on CBG. As stated above there is only 1% left of this cannabinoid when the plant has matured. As a result of this breeders are trying to genetically manipulate this with crossbreeding. Prime Spectrum has read that others are looking for the best time to extract the CBG when it is at its highest in the plant during the flowering process.
Decide For Yourself
They have carried out very little research on this cannabinoid CBG. More so animals than humans. All mammals have an endocannabinoid system however they are not all equal. Each mammal is unique in its genetic makeup and the locations of the receptors in conjunction with the volume in the body are also unique. CBD works well for some and not for others due to this and other reasons. In my opinion, the same will be said for CBG and if CBD does not work then maybe CBG will and vis versa. The foundations will remain the same as you need to find a good supplier/product and find a therapeutic dose that works for you.
Potential Benefits of CBG?
Many of the following benefits are also associated with CBD which leads me back to the above point about our uniqueness, therapeutic dose, and product. It also needs to be noted that there are even fewer studies on CBG. The following reports are not proof that CBG or CBD for that matter will treat the following. They are reported as showing promise and until there are affective clinical trials they are unfounded.
- Inflammatory bowel disease and colitis – In 2013 CBG was tested on rats. The study is HERE.
- Huntington’s and neurodegenerative diseases- A 2015 study on mice. This study can be found HERE.
- Antibacterial properties – A 2008 study is showing that it could be effective in this area. This can be found HERE. Just as CBD is HERE.
- A Cancer Fighter- A 2016 study looked at this in conjunction with other first-line treatments it helped with the reduction of tumor growth. You can find this HERE. A side effect of some of these treatments is the loss of appetite and a study shown HERE suggested that this was improved.
For now, I have no doubt that CBG, just like CBD is important for our health. I am happy to see that CBG ( Just like CBD ) is being studied more and more. The right people are starting to fall into the group that many of us are already in. CBD, Cannabis, and CBG could have a massive positive impact on our health and we should be looking to natural and nature more.
